Epic work is
only possible
when you
have the
right people.
The kind of people who are good at what they do and know how to have fun in the process.

We always
take our
work seriously. But never ourselves.
We keep things light. We laugh hard. And we genuinely enjoy one another’s company. It’s our secret sauce. And when you work with us, we consider you part of the team. So prepare to roll up your sleeves and have some fun too.

Experiencing creativity and inspiring innovative thinkers! 💡
Last week, our Atlanta team volunteered at the Agape Youth and Family Center`s Corporate Volunteer Day. We toured their impressive new building, welcomed students into the after-school program, and our team served as Homework Buddies for the Kindergarten through 5th grade classes. And, as a fun landscape architecture exercise, we encouraged their creativity to blossom by designing an outdoor park together.
We had a blast! The Agape students were excited to learn about our local projects, like Centennial Olympic Park, and eager to share that they have visited our amazing themed entertainment projects, like Baha Bay and Volcano Bay. We`re grateful to the @agapeatl for welcoming us to learn more about their mission to help the students in their community embrace and achieve their full potential, and to share our passion for designing awesome places.
A few of our ATX designers attended the Austin Architecture Cruise earlier this month, where they enjoyed the picturesque views of Austin`s evolving skyline along Lady Bird Lake. It was a humble reminder of the beauty in old and new design, taking a closer look at the city we`re proud to be a part of. Thank you to the Austin Foundation for Architecture for hosting this enlightening experience!
Mitch Broussard just leveled up to licensed architect! Mitch`s nearly 5-year journey with us has been nothing short of inspiring, packed with his standout contributions to epic projects like the Desert Mountain Renegade Club and the Waypoint at Westerly Amenity. Reflecting on his work, Mitch shares, "The Renegade Clubhouse was a fresh challenge right from my start at DTJ, offering an opportunity to work on something completely new." He adds, "Every design, from townhouse bedrooms to outdoor lounges, impacts someone`s life, sometimes in ways they don`t even realize." Join us in applauding Mitch`s dedication and creativity in his career, which truly makes a difference. 👏
It`s #UglyChristmasSweaterDay and we`re only just getting started for the holiday season with our annual ugly sweater contest coming this Tuesday. Our crew has a history of going all out, and we absolutely can`t wait to see what wild ideas and a little Photoshop will bring to the table. Swipe to see what some of us wore last year—who do YOU think took home the prize?
Last week, DTJ Austin team celebrated the warm welcome of two incredible architectural designers, Josiah and Farrah! 🌟 They each showcased their portfolios, allowing us to delve deeper into their individual journeys and discover the unique experiences they bring to DTJ. It was an exciting opportunity to get to know them personally and professionally. We couldn`t be more thrilled to have them on board, bringing fresh perspectives and talents to our creative team!
Meet Travis, our "Experience Creator" (his self-given title), who has a knack for adding a dash of fun to everything he does. During the pandemic, Travis turned his home into a greenhouse, nurturing not one, not ten, but a whopping 71 house plants. His green thumb isn`t the only thing he tends to, either. He`s a proud pet parent to Winslow, aka "Buddy," his Winter White Hamster—a character in his own right.
As a kid, Travis dreamed of becoming a zoologist; he now channels that curiosity into designing meaningful spaces in our architecture studio. His friends and family describe him as honest, loyal, and delightfully sarcastic, a combo as punchy as his favorite meme—the kid with a fist full of sand (we know, it`s hilarious every time).
We`re not just grateful for his exceptional talent and collaborative spirit. We`d trust him with our house plants and our house plans alike!
DTJ is proud to have celebrated our 50th anniversary as a company this last year. Founded in 1967 as Downing Leach and subsequently as Downing, Thorpe, and James, DTJ has been providing quality, thoughtful community planning, landscape design, and architecture to Colorado, the United States, and beyond for 5 decades. Cheers to 5 more! Here are a few fun shots for the 50th anniversary celebration party.
