Desert Mountain Cochise Geronimo Bark Park
The Cochise Geronimo Bark Park project is an adaptive re-use of half of an underutilized parking area into a sustainably designed private community dog park. The Bark Park features two separate areas (large dogs and small dogs) encompassing a total of 17,385 SF and with both areas featuring multiple shade structures, water play features, agility course elements, water stations, and synthetic turf throughout. The synthetic turf was selected not only for its superior drainage capability, minimizing excess runoff and urine buildup, but also its antimicrobial properties and infill-free system. In addition to the multiple structures to provide shade, 17 salvaged trees and cacti from the former parking lot were replanted within or along the perimeter of the dog park to further increase shade and add to the overall design character of integrating within the Sonoran Desert landscape.
