DTJ is proud to announce that Universal’s Volcano Bay won an Honor Award at this year’s Florida ASLA Design Awards!

DTJ worked with Shea Homes to design and deliver 206 single-family townhouse-style homes. Higher density helped attainability; other efficiencies included a creative approach to side-yard setbacks, simplified foundations and rooflines, and stacked exterior walls from first to third floor to eliminate need for structural beams. DTJ recently named senior architect Lee Payne as Associate. With a focus on complete project integration Lee is involved in all aspects of project delivery; from concept and yield studies through construction. He specializes in mixed-use, senior living and multifamily, residential, corporate campus and office facilities, places of assembly and retail environments. Congratulations Lee!
DTJ is pleased to share in the excitement around the Forest Lakes Community in Halifax, Nova Scotia. DTJ has been working with Terra Firma Development Corporation over the past four years to provide landscape architecture, architecture, and planning for this highly amenitized, four season lifestyle community.
DTJ’s Todd Hill has been invited back to Nassau to revisit the 2004 EDAW plan for ‘Nassau Harbour – Bay Street Regeneration.’ Todd will help restudy the unexecuted plan and adapt it to the present conditions, which include dilapidated commercial and residential challenges. Called “An ambitious and much-needed project to regenerate Bay Street” by Nassau’s Tribune242, we are excited to see what Todd can accomplish!
DTJ hopes you can join us at the 2015 Builders Show in Las Vegas. Principals Steve James and Tom Kopf will be giving a series of presentations between Jan 20th and Jan 22nd. Topics to include: Site Design, Small Sites for Big Success, and Indoor Design Meets Outdoor Living.
The ProGreen Expo is going on this week at the Denver Convention Center and we are excited that DTJer Susan Wade will be presenting as part of the Friday 10 X 10 Design Presentation (Part II). This past spring, Susan and a few other DTJ women won the City’s competition to design and build Boulder’s first Parklet. Susan’s presentation will focus on the design and construction process that made the Parklet a success.
DTJ Founding Partner Bruce Downing inducted into the Best in American Living Hall of Fame!
DTJ is extremely proud and pleased to announce Founding Partner Bruce Downing’s induction into the BALA Hall of Fame. From developing the first Planned Unit Development in Colorado and pioneering solar homes, to beautiful golf communities and luxury lifestyle living, his award-winning projects and contribution to the residential industry has been significant. Bruce was celebrated at the BALA Awards Ceremony and the International Builder’s Show in Las Vegas last week. Congratulations Bruce!

Fall has arrived and that means it’s time for Boulder’s first temporary Parklet to be taken down. It’s had a great response and we are so glad that the team of designers involved in the volunteer project included a few DTJers!
DTJ’s Residence Two at Midtown continues to win big; this time with a 2014 Builder’s Choice GRAND Award for Production, Semi-Custom, or Spec 3,500 Square Feet or Less. According to Builder Magazine, “The jury predicted the finished product will enjoy broad appeal, praising its “attractive” exterior, sunny interior, and “very creative” floor plan.”
Several years in the making, DTJ Design is excited to be working in the Bahamas on the redevelopment of downtown Nassau. DTJ Atlanta Director Todd Hill (left) and Designer Louie Northern (right) traveled to meet with Nassau officials last week. NAHB Spring Board Meeting
Tom Kopf participated in Design and Land Development committee meetings, and volunteered to help update NAHB’s Developer Checklist
Steve James spoke at the Pacific Coast Builder’s Conference, along with Tom Morton of Brookfield Residential. The presentation entitled “From Brown to Green: Successful Strategies for Urban Brownfield Redevelopment” showcased the new Midtown project in Denver as a case study.
