Copper Canyon Town Center
With public input, project goals included meaningful tax generation, protecting the natural environment, and functionality with the appropriate level of density and connectivity, resulting in the vision statement that reads, “The core value for the town’s future is to keep it rural and country with an emphasis on preservation and open space.”
Four core planning principles inform and guide the concept: open space protection including the existing tree grove and creek corridor; parks and green space found in a central community gathering space, bookended by an outdoor amphitheater overlooking the creek and the tree grove; people-focused with walkability and connectivity achieved with a tight street block structure and most of the commercial area within a ¼ mile or 5-minutes’ walk radius; and, vehicular, bicycle access, and connectivity provided by an easily navigable road network.
