Downtown Westminster Aerostat Park is a centerpiece urban park in the redevelopment of a former suburban shopping mall. Surrounded by mixed-use and retail, features of the park include a multi-use flex event arena, integrated audio system, children water play area, urban dog park, and shaded seating areas. A key, repeating feature of the park is the balloon-inspired structure, a historic nod to the former mall’s decorative hot air balloons. These structures are designed to be a climbing/play, water, and iconic art structure, and all include specialty effect lighting. Aerostat Park is seeking SITES certification; if received, it will be one of the first SITES-certified public parks in Colorado.
