Sheridan/US36 Interchange
The focus of the design was to create an iconic front range landscape as a visual extension of Downtown Westminster. The design was inspired by the foothills landscapes, translating ridges and canyons into landforms, and mimicking the transition of the upland pines down to foothill grasslands. A sharper focus on sustainability was incorporated into DTJ’s approach with xeric shrub and native grass musings along the side slopes of the berms and
native seed mix along the low, flat areas intended to mimic the prairie grasslands. The design strikes a careful balance between native plant materials, long term maintenance and water conservation, and creates a bold statement that can be identified from both the adjacent highway as well as within the downtown and regional bike commuter system.
