DTJ renovated Whitman Park, a historic space located in the heart of Grand Junction, reactivating this essential community area and enhancing the active play and recreational spaces. Through close collaboration with the city and extensive community engagement, we developed a schematic design that sticks to city branding, inspired by the geology of the Grand Valley. The park includes spaces for small groups and can host medium-sized events, featuring dining areas, native pollinator plantings, and careful preservation of existing trees. Amenities include flexible activities for everyone with nature play elements, climbing structures, a dog park, and a basketball court that doubles as a winter ice rink. An interwoven walking loop further enhances the overall experience.
